1. BeachtownGirls... What a great name and concept! What was your inspiration behind it?

BeachtownGirls came about after we started a company called Beachtownrules.

Beachtownrules was simple. It meant what it said. The beachtowns rule! I mean, who doesn't want to live here. We all grew up here and it was a circus back then. Now it's a jungle. But we all love it. The attitude has to go. Really, it does. Live Aloha.

In the early 90s and even before that, no one had come up with a successful beach brand for beach locals. You know, the local brathas that didn't surf, yet they grew up on the beach. They are locals. Beachtownrules was an idea of making a brand that the beach communities could wear. Moms and dads, brathas and sistas. We all have seen people surf for years and then quit, yet they still live by the beach and their former surf lifestyle can still be seen in who they are. The beach and surfing lifestyle environment had shaped who they had become. They are still cool people. We understood that 90 percent of the people who live in and around and near the beach don't surf.

After several years of Beachtownrules we realized that everyone wears surf apparel. Every surfer knows that everyone wants to wear surf apparel regardless if they surf or not. So, the idea didn't quite catch. Alittle wahine, or should I say, a little BeachtownGirl, once said to me, "Hey, Uncle when are you going to start, BeachtownGirls! Boom! It hit us like a 5 foot wave standing on the beach.

At this time, technically speaking, the girls and womens surf industry is starting to blossom. Now, we all know that womens surfing has been around since the men starting surfing. Only there wasn't that many women surfing. So, those who made boardshorts in Hawaii, back in the day, didn't think it in their best interest to make stuff for the gals. Just like a guy, huh?

This is why BeachtownGirls blossomed. Our main reason for going is girls and womens surfing. Pure and simple. We believe in sponsoring girls that do not compete. If they compete, that's cool too. But just having them on our team and letting them have FUN with their FRIENDS is the most important aspects of our surf philosophy. We have gotten wetsuits for some on the team. Some have gotten surfboards.

We give them clothes and have had some enter contests. It really is an organic process. We want them to be apart of something. We want them to surf and have fun with their friends. We believe in treating all people, surfers and non-surfers alike. Treat people as you want them to treat you.
